Tutorial/
Narrative Design
I created the tutorial to show the interaction with the features of the game. When the flashlight is first collected, it turns on. The dialogue is added to explain the features of the flashlight, lamp, and the interaction with the monster. The one monster is blocked by the lamp light to easily provide direction for players to learn how to kill monsters.
Combat Design
The flashlight is the main weapon used. Collision masks were used to divide the interaction with the light and the monsters. If the monsters collide with the flashlight, they die. If they collide with the lamplight, it acts as a wall and the monsters can't move through them. To add difficulty, I added a timer for flashlights and lamplights to turn off after a short amount of time.
Level/System Design
For the three levels, I arranged the number of lamps to decrease while the number of monsters to increase after each level, so the difficulty will gradually increase.
Content Update
After the initial release in December, I have been giving the game several updates. Updates included bug fixes as well as new content such as new items, new modes, and new UI features.
Endless mode is the most recent major update, opening up to new possibilities for the game such as leaderboards and new stories.
Promotion
To promote the game and inform our participation in the showcases, I have created posters and posted them around the campus. I have also made announcements through communities in Discord and LinkedIn. Free stickers were distributed for those who played the game during the showcases.
Showcases
Participating in a total of 5 showcases, Speedway Survival has gotten massive feedback that led to constantly improving the gameplay. Receiving 8 update patches, the game has been polished to meet the needs of the players. The scope of the game will also increase as the game aims to make an official launch in the future.
